Meet Jessica

With more than 20 years of experience in the non-traditional K-12 space, Jessica has encountered change, and resistance to change, for her entire career. She's made breaking down barriers to change a primary focus in her career.

Jessica holds deep origins from a Southern CA, working class, family of seven upbringing. She was taught the value of working hard for everything she’s ever accomplished and to try and be conscientious of others whenever possible. She grew up in Pomona and then San Dimas, CA and after several years of exploration nailed down a BA degree from CSUN when she was 25 years old. After completing both her single and multiple teaching credentials, she skipped the traditional teaching route and went directly into the field of independent study charter schools. Her first experience was at a small school in Oceanside, CA where she worked for 10 years as a curriculum coordinator and program manager and transitioned the paper-packet model to an online format. After developing multiple new programs there she left to work for the international curriculum company, K12 and during her three years there, developed multiple virtual schools throughout CA while she completed a MA in Educational Administration and a PhD in Curriculum with an emphasis on Critical Pedagogies and after experiencing tumultuous change at the small charter school, wrote her dissertation on K12 Educators’ Response to Change.

After leaving K12, she co-founded her own network of independent study charter schools along with an online SIS, LMS and curriculum platform that she now partners with others to implement in their schools. She has a deep passion for supporting change dynamics within her own organization and those seeking help in implementing changes within their own. She is currently working on her second book on developing virtual programs and consults for those in need of change management and support.
